I see a lot of horses down here in the country so I thought I would make equestrian sculptures that were stylistically related to the teapot series. One thing you notice when sculpting a horse is how amazing it is that those skinny little legs can hold up such a massive animal. Although you are sure the whole time you're working that there is no way this thing is going to support all that weight in clay, they somehow actually stand up. Well, they tend to lean a bit during the firing. I chose to pose the horses in a sort of peaceful mood liike the ones that I see near my home. These sculptures are made of stoneware fired to cone 6 in oxidation.
