Carl Schoenberger is from Washington, DC. He received his Bachelors Degree in Studio Art from the University of Maryland in 1979. He worked as a portrait artist and freelance illustrator for many years creating work for publication in a variety of magazines, brochures, and posters. He returned to school to earn his MFA in ceramics from the George Washington University in 2002 where he later taught courses in introductory wheel, ceramic decoration, and ceramic history and technology.
Carl moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina in 2007 where he maintains a studio and works as a full time ceramic artist.His work focuses on sculptural objects that emphasize the use of clay as the medium.He is equally comfortable using wheel or handbuilding techniques, and frequently, uses alternative finishing techniques since most of his output is non-functional.His ceramic work has been featured in Clay Times magazine and Art & Antiques magazine.
